India, Jan. 24 -- India's installed power capacity increased by nearly 36% over the past five years, primarily driven by a significant rise in renewable energy, according to a report from the Reserve Bank of India.
The report highlights that 2025 saw the highest annual addition to renewable energy capacity on record, with data from the Central Electricity Authority indicating that renewable installations climbed from 5.6 GW in 2020 to a record 48.6 GW in 2025, predominantly from solar energy.
In contrast, fossil fuel capacity additions remained low, while nuclear capacity additions became steady following 2023.
