India, Jan. 29 -- India has advanced to 38th in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2025 from 66th in 2019, as per the Economic Survey 2025-26.

This progress is attributed to government initiatives in manufacturing, startups, and technology, notably the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, which has attracted investments over Rs 2 lakh crore and created employment for over 12.60 lakh people.

India leads among lower middle-income countries in innovation, with cities like Bengaluru and Delhi ranking in the top 50 innovation clusters. Globally, India is fourth in trademark filings, sixth in patents, and seventh in industrial designs.
