New Delhi, Dec. 9 -- As of December 8, a total of 4.76 crore smart meters have been installed in India to enhance monitoring of the power sector, with an additional 20.33 crore meters sanctioned under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
Minister of State for Power Yesso Naik reported that smart metering is implemented via public-private partnerships, allowing consumers real-time access to energy usage data, aiding in energy audits.
The shift to prepaid meters improves budgeting and billing efficiency for utilities.
