India, Dec. 30 -- India's social protection coverage has increased from 19% in 2015 to 64.3% in 2025, ranking second in the world after China.
This improvement is attributed to enhanced social welfare schemes and recent labor reforms. Prime Minister Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana to create over 3.5 crore jobs, with initiatives to support first-time employees and manufacturing sectors.
The government consolidated 29 labor laws into four codes to simplify compliance and protect worker rights. Advances in digital transformations by EPFO and expanded ESIC benefits aim to improve social security across various sectors.
