New Delhi, Nov. 28 -- In a significant reform to enhance coal exploration, the Indian government has permitted private entities accredited by the Quality Council of India (QCI) to conduct prospecting operations for coal and lignite.

This new policy allows an additional 18 agencies to engage in such operations, offering coal block allottees increased flexibility and efficiency in accelerating exploration.

The changes are anticipated to reduce the time for obtaining prospecting licenses by approximately six months, expediting the preparation of geological reports necessary for mine operationalization.
