India, Jan. 15 -- Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has advanced its 'Make in India' initiatives in the rail transportation sector by initiating the supply of underslung traction transformers for the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train project, part of a consortium led by BHEL and TRSL.

A flag-off ceremony at BHEL's Jhansi plant marked this achievement, with key BHEL directors inaugurating the first set of transformers virtually. This step enhances BHEL's entry into the semi-high-speed propulsion segment, capable of operational speeds of up to 160 kmph and design speeds of 180 kmph, with transformers being dispatched to Kolkata for assembly.
