India, July 20 -- Tension gripped Balanga in Odisha's Puri district today as Biju Janata Dal (BJD) workers staged a protest outside the local police station, demanding justice for a minor girl who was allegedly set ablaze by unidentified miscreants in the area.
The protest turned chaotic when a group of agitated BJD workers attempted to force their way into the Balanga police station, resulting in a scuffle with police personnel. To bring the situation under control, three platoons of police forces were deployed.
The party workers also demanded the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, holding her accountable for the deteriorating law and order situation and alleged police inaction in the case.
