Bhubaneswar, Feb. 11 -- Bhakta Charan Das was appointed as the President of the Odisha Pradesh Congrss Committee (OPCC).

Per a statement issued today by the All India Congress Committee, Congress party President Mallikarjun Kharge appointed Das as the OPCC chief with immediate effect.

Das was a Member of the Parliament and represented the Kalahandi constituency in the 15th Lok Sabha.

He graduated from the Sambalpur University with a background in Law and worked as an advocate before joining politics.

He served as the Union Minister of State for Railways during the tenure of Chandra Sekhar as Prime Minister.
