Bijapur, Feb. 9 -- A total of 31 Maoists were killed in an exchange of fire with the security personnel in an area under the National Park area in Chhattisgarh state, a top police official said.

Informing about the death of the Maoists, IG Bastar P. Sundarraj today told a news agency two Jawans have been injured during the exchange of fire. The two Jawans were airlifted to a hospital for treatment and were out of danger, he added. Two Jawans lost their lives.

Sundarraj added search operation in the area underway.

This encounter comes a week after eight Maoists were killed in another operation of security forces launched in Bijapur district.
