India, Aug. 11 -- Village Farms International, Inc. (VFF) shares surged 29.61% to $2.23, up $0.51 on Monday, after the company posted a strong second quarter turnaround.

Consolidated net sales rose 12 percent to $59.9 million from $53.6 million a year ago. The company reported net income of $26.5 million, or $0.24 per share, compared to a net loss of $23.5 million, or $0.21 per share, in the prior year period.

The stock opened at $1.96, traded between $1.96 and $2.28, and is currently at $2.23, above the previous close of $1.72 on the Nasdaq. Trading volume spiked to 16 million shares, sharply higher than the average of 0.76 million.

Over the past 52 weeks, Village Farms shares have traded between $1.83 and $4.82.
