India, Sept. 3 -- SINTX Technologies, Inc. (SINT), an advanced ceramics company specializing in biomedical applications of silicon nitride (SiN), Wednesday announced the publication of a study showing that silicon nitride exhibits strong antiviral activity against various infectious virus strains, including SARS-CoV-2 and MERS-CoV. Following the news, the company's shares were more than 20% up in pre-market.
The study, conducted in collaboration with Professor Kylene Kehn-Halls group at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, showed that direct contact to alpha-phase silicon nitride reduced infectious SARS-CoV-2 titers by up to 99.97% within 10 minutes and inactivated completely by 30 minutes.
