India, April 15 -- Some scientists are raising concerns about the potential cancer risks linked to low doses of ionizing radiation, according to a new study published in JAMA Internal Medicine.

In the United States, around 93 million CT or computed tomography scans are performed annually on approximately 62 million patients. While these scans are a vital diagnostic tool, the radiation they emit may increase the long-term risk of developing cancer.

According to the latest research, an estimated 103,000 cases of radiation-induced cancer could result over the lifetimes of patients who underwent CT scans in 2023.
