India, May 8 -- Mexico's consumer price inflation increased slightly more-than-expected in April, data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, or INEGI, showed on Thursday.

The consumer price index climbed 3.93 percent year-on-year in April, faster than the 3.80 percent rise in March. The expected increase was 3.90 percent.

Data showed that core inflation also stood at 3.93 percent in April versus 2.64 percent in March.

Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages alone grew 3.78 percent annually in April, and costs for services were 4.56 percent higher compared to last year. Costs for energy showed an increase of 2.47 percent.
