India, June 19 -- Australia's jobless rate remained stable in May, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said Thursday.
The unemployment rate stood at 4.1 percent in May, the same as in April and also in line with expectations.
"This fall in employment, combined with a drop in unemployment of 3,000 people, meant that the unemployment rate remained steady at 4.1 percent for May," ABS head of labour statistics Sean Crick said.
The number of unemployed increased 1,500 from the previous month to 620,800 in May. At the same time, employment rose by 28,000 to 14.63 million.
Hours worked increased 1.3 percent in May, following lower levels in the previous two months coinciding with the Easter holiday period and severe weather disruptions.
