India, Aug. 25 -- Young tennis sensation Alexandra Eala has become the first-ever Filipino to win a Grand Slam singles main draw match in the Open era.
The 2022 US Open junior girls' singles champion and world No. 70 came back from a double break in the third set to upset world No. 14 Clara Tauson 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(13-11), in the first round of US Open 2025.
It was the first time that a Philippine tennis player reaching the second round of a Grand Slam tennis tournament.
The 20-year-old had lost in three sets at the first round of French Open and Wimbledon earlier.
