France, April 3 -- French police have searched the mayoral offices of former French Prime MinisterEdouard Philippe as part of a preliminary probe into possiblecorruption and financial wrongdoings.

Former French Prime MinisterEdouard Philippe is cooperating with authorities, his office said on Wednesday, after police searched his office premises aspart of a preliminary probe intopossible corruption.

Philippe, the mayor of Le Havre, is widely seen as apotential candidate to succeed Emmanuel Macron in the 2027French presidential election.
