Nepal, May 12 -- A woman from Birgunj has been arrested on charges of trafficking a young girl to India and forcing her into sex work.

The 20-year old suspect, a resident of Birgunj Metropolitan City-16, allegedly lured the girl on April 3 by promising to buy her new clothes and took her to Raxaul, India. There, she reportedly coerced the victim into the sex trade. The girl has since been rescued and brought back to Nepal.

According to Parsa police, the suspect is under investigation after the district court granted a five-day remand. Authorities are also looking into her alleged involvement in similar past cases involving underage girls.
