KATHMANDU, Nov. 22 -- The extended deadline for voter registration and updating the voter roll, set by the Election Commission (EC) in preparation for the upcoming House of Representatives election, expired at midnight on Friday.

Earlier, the registration deadline had been set for November 16, but due to a surge in new registrations and requests from stakeholders, the EC extended the deadline to November 21.

During this period, over 700,000 new voters were added, according to the EC, which said it will soon publish the verified data collected after midnight. The number of new registrations is "encouraging," EC spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said.
