Nepal, Dec. 27 -- A prisoner who escaped from prison during the Gen-Z protests in early September this year has died in India, police said on Saturday.

Alam Miya, 40, of Birtamod Municipality-3 in Jhapa district, had fled from the Central Jail in Sundhara, Kathmandu, on September 9 amid the unrest linked to the Gen-Z movement.

After his escape, Miya crossed into India's Himachal Pradesh, where he was reportedly working for a water treatment company. According to Jhapa District Police Office Spokesperson Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, Miya suddenly lost consciousness on December 25 and collapsed. He died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in India.

His body was brought back to Nepal on Saturday through the Galgalia border point.
