Nepal, June 29 -- The Nepal Student Union (NSU) has called for the appointment of Tribhuvan University's Vice Chancellor (VC) based on merit and open competition, in line with the University's existing selection guidelines.
NSU President Dujang Sherpa issued a circular on Sunday directing subordinate bodies to press for the appointment of a qualified VC under the "Vice Chancellor Selection and Recommendation Procedure, 2080." He warned that failure to do so would result in pressure campaigns.
Sherpa criticized ongoing attempts to bypass the merit-based system in favor of political appointments, warning that such moves undermine academic integrity, transparency, and institutional dignity.
