Nepal, Feb. 4 -- The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) for 750 megawatts of solar electricity under its plan to address seasonal energy shortages, particularly during winter months.

The NEA had floated a tender around one-and-a-half years ago to procure 960 MW of solar power, selecting 63 companies through a competitive bidding process. Of the total targeted capacity, PPAs for 750 MW have been completed so far.

According to the NEA, agreements for the remaining solar projects would be finalised soon. Among the selected bidders, energy entrepreneur Uttam Bhlon secured the largest share, with projects totalling 230 MW. PPAs have been signed for 210 MW under 15 solar projects awarded to the Bhulo...
