KATHMANDU, Aug. 28 -- The CPN (Maoist Center) has expressed its solidarity with sugarcane farmers and has called on the government to promptly pay the full amount owed to them.
Agni Prasad Sapkota, the spokesperson and vice chairman of the Maoist Center, urged the government to honor the farmers' hard work, ensure their rights, and treat them with respect.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the Maoist Center stated that it has taken note of the farmers' decision to stage a sit-in at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu.
The Maoist Center has stated that the government's act to decrease the support price of sugarcane was a disrespect to farmers as well as an anti-peasant and irresponsible act.
