KATHMANDU, May 16 -- Nepal received commitments for foreign direct investment (FDI) worth Rs 34.54 billion in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year.

According to the Department of Industry (DoI), it registered 163 firms with the proposed aforementioned investment during mid-July 2021 and mid-May 2022. Of them, 119 are small enterprises, 40 medium enterprises and four large firms.

Of the proposed investment, foreign investors showed their interest to inject Rs 10 billion into tourism-related businesses, most of which were for hotels and restaurants. Investors from China and Australia accounted for the largest proposed fund, followed by those from the US, the UK, Italy and Mexico, among others.
