Nepal, Dec. 22 -- The traffic police have urged all drivers to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained and in good condition, warning that vehicles emitting excessive smoke contribute to air pollution, pose serious risks to human health, and increase the likelihood of road accidents.

The Traffic Police have taken action against the drivers of 40 vehicles found emitting smoke beyond permissible limits.

A joint team from the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office and the Department of Environment conducted inspections at Thankot on Sunday. It penalized drivers whose vehicles were found to be exceeding emission standards.
