KATHMANDU, April 21 -- The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has launched an investigation into banking offenses involving pro-monarchist Durga Prasai, after the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) identified irregularities in loans taken by firms associated with him.

According to a CIB official, the bureau initiated the probe after obtaining an arrest warrant from the district court.

Prasai, known for his controversial involvement in medical business, has taken large sums in loans to run his enterprises. He has frequently drawn criticism for failing to repay bank loans.
