Nepal, May 19 -- Police have seized agricultural tools worth Rs 36.1 million that were smuggled into Nepal in Indian containers, bypassing customs.

According to Acting Information Officer Prabin Shrestha, a team from the District Police Office, Jhapa, intercepted three Indian containers on the East-West Highway at Birtamod Municipality-5 on Sunday night. Upon inspection, they found that the goods had been brought in illegally without customs clearance.

The containers - bearing Indian registration numbers NL 01 AH 5679, NL 01 N 9223, and NL 02 L 7486 - had entered Nepal via Kakarbhitta and were taken under police control directly from the highway.
