Nigeria, March 23 -- The Centre for Democracy and Development(CDD) has warned of severe consequences in the areas of security and the credibility of the ballot if the relevant authorities, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fail to properly tackle the obvious threats.

In its preliminary report on the supplementary elections holding across 89 local governments areas in five states on Saturday, the centre noted the desperation of politicians and political parties to win the election with heightened tensions and tendencies to violence.
