Nigeria, March 22 -- Ireti Kingibe, the senator for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has said the use of voice votes by members of the National Assembly for the approval of the emergency rule in Rivers State was insufficient.

Mrs Kingibe, a member of the Labour Party (LP), said she opposed the action because the Constitution clearly mandates a two-thirds majority vote for such a proclamation, which was not adhered to by the National Assembly.

The senator said these in a statement on Friday.
