Nigeria, Dec. 14 -- A private aeroplane carrying 11 passengers overran its runway at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano on Sunday.
Airport officials informed PREMIUM TIMES that all 11 persons on board-passengers and crew members-were safely evacuated from the aircraft, which Flybird operates.
The aeroplane, which originated from Abuja, reportedly overshot the runway at approximately 9:30 a.m. It was carrying 11 persons, including three crew members.
A malfunction of the landing gear reportedly caused the incident.
The incident forced other incoming aircraft to divert from their initial flight destination as landing signals were withheld due to the blockage of the runway.
