Nigeria, Jan. 28 -- Barely four years after Nigerian musician and entertainer Veno Marioghae-Mbanefo filed a lawsuit against telecommunications company Airtel over the unauthorised use of her hit song, "Nigeria Go Survive," the court has delivered its judgment.
On 20 April 2022, PREMIUM TIMES reported that Airtel was using the singer's song to promote and advertise the music reality show "The Voice Nigeria," which Airtel currently sponsors.
In suit no. FHC/L/CS/1822/2022, Justice Ibrahim Kala of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, awarded N210 million in damages against Airtel for copyright infringement.
