Nigeria, Dec. 9 -- The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Monday appointed the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, as the Chairman of Kano State Council of Chiefs.

The governor's spokesperson, Abba Anwar, in a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES said the appointment is with immediate effect.

He said the new appointee, Mr Sanusi, would head the state's council of chiefs while the newly appointed emirs would serve as members.

"It is also directed that the Chairman shall immediately summon the inaugural meeting of the Council in accordance with the provisions of the Law," Mr Anwar said.

Mr Ganduje had last week explained that the headship of the Kano State Council of Chiefs would be rotational among the emirs in the state.
