Nigeria, Dec. 9 -- Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Mr Fubara announced his defection to the APC at an event at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday.

The governor's defection to the APC came hours after his closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja.

The defection also occurred days after 16 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, including the speaker, defected to the party.
