Nigeria, Sept. 14 -- Tomeka Thiam, wife of Senegalese-American singer Akon, filed for divorce after nearly three decades of marriage.
According to TMZ, Thiam, who married the Grammy-nominated artiste on 15 September 1996, cited irreconcilable differences as her reason for seeking the divorce.
The divorce documents revealed that the couple had a 17-year-old daughter.
Thiam sought joint legal custody and requested physical custody of the child. She also demanded spousal support and moved to block the court's ability to grant Akon any support.
Akon, who rose to fame in 2004 with his breakout single "Locked Up" featuring Styles P, had not publicly commented on the development.
