Nigeria, July 5 -- The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of CAF's 54 member associations to Nigeria following the death of former Super Eagles goalkeeper and captain, Peter Rufai.
Rufai, fondly known as "Dodo Mayana," passed away on Thursday, 3 July 2025, at the age of 61 after a prolonged illness.
His death has sent shockwaves through the African football fraternity, with tributes pouring in from far and wide for one of the continent's most iconic goalkeepers.
Mr Motsepe described Rufai as a symbol of excellence who helped elevate African football on the global stage.
