Nigeria, Aug. 6 -- President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of prominent Nigerian journalist Doyin Abiola.

PREMIUM TIMES reported the death of Mrs Abiola, 82, early on Wednesday.

Wife of the late Moshood (MFO) Abiola, Mrs Abiola was the first Nigerian woman to serve as editor of a national newspaper.

In his condolence message on Wednesday, President Tinubu described Mrs Abiola as "an Amazon and an icon in Nigerian journalism."

"She broke the gender barrier, becoming the first woman to edit a national newspaper and the first Managing Director of a daily newspaper," the president wrote.
