Interpreting Roman imperial art from a provincial perspective

The EU-funded RESP project will provide the first comprehensive discussion on how the nature and significance of Roman power was viewed and interpreted in provincial cities both in the western and eastern regions of the Mediterranean from the reign of Augustus to that of Diocletian (c. 31 BC - AD 297). The project will carry out a comparative study of coinage and sculpture taking an interdisciplinary approach, combining classics, digital humanities and manufacturing studies.
