Innovative technology for mapping synaptic connections in the brain

Accumulating evidence indicates that the neurons situated in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) of the brain undergo structural remodelling that depends on experience. This is believed to support learning and memory consolidation. The EU-funded PrefrontalMap project is investigating the synaptic organisation of the mPFC complex circuit and the functional implications of this experience-driven re-structuring.
