Phenols are potentially the largest group of plant secondary metabolites, the simplest of which is referred to as phenol, or carboxylic acid. Phenol is widely used in the production and manufacture of numerous products from adhesives to disinfectants to anaesthetics. Given the industrial relevance of organic phenol-based compounds, the PhenAnOx project is exploiting a more sustainable and green way to synthesise them.
