Understanding the chemistry behind electron 'magnets'

Oxidisers are electron acceptors, and they play an important role in processes including chemical production, energy storage and rocket propulsion. Elemental fluorine is the strongest oxidiser in the periodic table, which means that it reacts very readily to gain electrons. More complex molecules can have oxidisation strength exceeding that of fluorine. These so-called superoxidisers are of great interest to industry, yet their behaviours and properties are not well characterised.
