Nature is going to play a pivotal role in the transformation of industrial strategies, and the recent bioeconomy approaches can be regarded as initial steps towards a sustainable future. The EU-funded ABIONYS project operates at the interface between chemistry and life sciences challenging the separation of chemical synthesis from biosynthesis to deliver the first proof of concept where abiotic reactions provide building blocks for biosynthesis.
