Lucknow, March 4 -- The Uttar Pradesh government intends to invest Rs 300 crore on a textile park in the state to give a new identity to the textile industry. The investment in the industry will benefit the weavers and entrepreneurs, power loom weavers will get cheap electricity and the state will become a textile hub.
Uttar Pradesh's handloom and textile industry is witnessing unprecedented growth. As the largest decentralised cottage industry after agriculture, this sector employs approximately 1.91 lakh handloom weavers and supports over 80,000 families. Additionally, more than 5.50 lakh weavers earn their livelihood through 2.58 lakh power looms.
