Bhopal, May 9 -- Surprise May showers earlier this week offered a grim preview of the waterlogging that submerges Bhopal each monsoon-as officials repeat the same responses every year, hoping in vain for a different outcome.
For decades, the rains have triggered a familiar cycle: flooded low-lying areas, vanishing roads, daily disruptions, and a surge in sickness and stress.
The problem is far from new. From the Old City to the colonies along Kolar Road, the same areas flood every year. Shahpura, Alpana Trisection, Damkheda, Eidgah foothills, Chhola, and Sindhi Colony Square are consistently worst-hit. Yet, nothing changes on the ground.
