Kochi, May 24 -- Pinarayi Vijayan has emerged as the undisputed leader of Kerala politics as he completed his ninth year as Chief Minister last Tuesday. This Saturday, the old warhorse of the Kerala CPI (M) is celebrating his 80 th birthday. Early this month Prime Minister Narendra Modi described him as the main pillar of the Opposition alliance in the country.

As Vijayan enters the fifth year of his second successive tenure as CM, his party the CPI (M) is in cloud nine. There is a general feeling across Kerala that Vijayan and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would be voted back to power in the Assembly election expected in March 2026. Cadres of the CPI (M) are confident that the LDF would romp home in the Assembly election.
