New Delhi, July 19 -- In a major blow to Islamabad, the US State Department on Friday designated The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow outfit of Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) that had claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam terror attack, as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).

Announcing the punitive measure, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said it was part of Washington's commitment to countering terrorism and enforcing President Donald Trump's call for justice for the Pahalgam attack. New Delhi welcomed the move with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar describing it as a "strong affirmation" of India-US counter-terror cooperation.
