Jammu, June 9 -- In a strategic move to enhance grassroots-level security and counter cross-border threats, the Indian Army and Border Security Force (BSF) have intensified their efforts to train Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in the Jammu region.
The VDG training is part of a multi-pronged strategy to secure Jammu and Kashmir, especially ahead of the 2025 Amarnath Yatra starting from July 3, which is set to be the "most heavily guarded" with the deployment of 42,000 paramilitary troops.
The initiative, aimed at empowering local civilians to act as a "second line of defence," involves comprehensive arms training and weapon-handling programs across border villages, particularly in response to the prevailing security scenario in the region....
