India, Nov. 7 -- The Delhi Traffic Police has penalised over 4.87 lakh motorists as of October this year for driving without valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates, compared to 3.78 lakh during the same period in 2024, marking a sharp 20 per cent rise.
According to data from the Delhi Traffic Police, the intensified drive comes as the air quality in the national capital continues to remain in the 'poor to severe' category.
"Strict action is being taken against violators to curb vehicular emissions that significantly contribute to Delhi's air quality," the official said. The officer informed that till October 30, police had issued over 8.87 lakh challans to vehicles found without valid PUC certificates.
