Kolkata, Feb. 5 -- The Railway Ministry has roundly refuted the strong criticism made by the Trinamool Congress that the Union Budget has produced a "high sounding nothing" and that it is "full of deprivation for Bengal." This by saying that the Centre has effected a threefold increase in the funds that the Railways allocated to the State when Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was the Railway Minister.

The Minister has said that when Banerjee and her TMC nominees like Dinesh Trivedi and Mukul Roy were the Railway Ministers between 2009 and 2014 the central budgetary allocations for Bengal was Rs 4,380 crores whereas this year it has gone up to Rs 13,955 crores.
