Bhopal, June 15 -- A tiger attacked a forest guard in Satpura Tiger Reserve's Madhai zone in Narmadapuram district on Saturday, before retreating when another guard rushed in, wielding an axe.
The attack occurred near Sonbhadra camp around 1:45 PM. Forest guards Sattu Lal Dhurve and Halke Alawa were returning from patrol when the tiger sprang from behind and pinned Sattu roughly 100 metres from the camp.
Halke, walking 50 feet ahead, heard Sattu's cries and charged at the tiger, waving his axe and shouting. Startled, the tiger backed off, allowing the guards to retreat.
Sattu, wounded on his waist and thigh, was taken to Sohagpur hospital and later referred to Bhopal for treatment, said district officials.
