Bhopal, Feb. 20 -- A district administration official found himself at the centre of controversy in the state capital on Wednesday when he ordered the microphone of a sound system to be switched off during Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's birth anniversary celebrations.

The officer, Tehsildar Kunal Raut, tendered an apology after his action triggered a protest with attendees, predominantly from the Maratha community, staging a sit-in at the statue of Shivaji Maharaj on Link Road No. 1.

The event, a long-standing tradition held annually near the Red Cross Hospital, was disrupted when Raut ordered the removal of the sound system and tents, citing a lack of official permission.
