Jammu, April 19 -- A pre-marriage visit to a younger sister's residence turned out to be a harrowing experience for Dr Liaqat Ali, serving as Assistant Professor at the School of Humanities, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi, after he was 'brutally' beaten with a rifle butt by the Indian Army troops along with his cousins during routine vehicle checking in the Lam area of Nowshera, Rajouri district late on Thursday night.

A timely alarm raised by close relatives of Dr Liaqat Ali saved the situation from taking an ugly turn as a police officer from a nearby police post reached the spot and pacified both sides to exercise restraint.
